Our foundational training is rooted in Gestalt therapy, and we have experience working with couples from a variety of cultural backgrounds. We are committed to embracing every individual's need to be accepted as they are and to respecting various forms of relationships. Our approach is non-judgmental; we are not here to judge or “fix” you. Instead, we aim to join your team for a bit, helping you gain new awareness and perspectives as you decide where you want to go together.
In our couples therapy sessions, you can expect a safe, confidential space where both partners can express their thoughts and feelings openly. We incorporate techniques learned from reputable professionals like Terry Real, Ellyn Bader, and others, using evidence-based practices to enhance communication and relational dynamics.
Typical therapy involves a range of sessions, generally between 4 to 16 meetings. While four sessions may suffice to address communication styles and begin a personal growth orientation, deeper issues—such as those rooted in personality, character, or emotional growth—often require a longer commitment. Personal growth is an ongoing journey, much like nurturing a garden rather than a quick repair like a visit to a mechanic.
It’s important to note that some situations may necessitate referral to a specialist. For example, issues involving sex addiction, co-parenting challenges, or deep trauma work might require additional support. According to a resource from Psychology Today, in-depth trauma work often exceeds typical session numbers, emphasizing that such matters require time and specialized attention. Our couples and relationship therapy sessions currently start at $185 for a 60-minute session. While a sliding scale is not available at this time, we are committed to providing supplementary support through free resources, including worksheets and access to online therapy modules via OpenPath. These modules address various personal growth topics, such as anger management, stress management, and more, to support your work as a couple between sessions.

At our practice, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who is dedicated to helping you explore your feelings, thoughts, and relationships. Different therapists offer different skills and therapy orientations. Here at OTO we practice relationally, working through a Gestalt lens to which we add tools for our shared consensual experiments learned from trauma conferences and other studies.
We approach therapy understanding that whatever is happening for you, you are having a human experience. You can’t have anything else. We are not here to judge, we are here to join you on your journey and that is an honour for us.
